“Serial entrepreneur”. That’s the term flatteringly bestowed on Phil Cox, the innovator behind the TechTol Imaging system.
Phil was issued his first patent in 1968 – as a college intern at Owens Illinois Inc. – on a system for printing on glass containers. Phil later became a Senior Project Engineer for the company. He also created a home and subdivision design and construction company and a retail carpeting company.
Not one to shy away from big ideas, he became well known in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio in 1994 when he saved an entire development of upscale condominiums from the wrecking ball. The condos were slated for demolition to make way for the headquarters of a major corporation. Instead, Phil led an historic project to lift the 450-ton buildings off their foundations, slide them onto barges, and float the enormous structures 40-miles across Lake Erie to their current location on the Marblehead Peninsula, where today they’re known as the Commodore Island Condominiums.
Phil has led Techtol’s technical team in all phases of research, development and testing as well as securing the rights to intellectual property and raising investment capital. As TechTol’s Chief Executive Officer, he directs and oversees all aspects of commercialization of the TechTol Imaging system.
